Day 2: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

Aside from new some wrist pain I currently seem to be experiencing during my morning yoga practice, Day 2 went SIGNIFICANTLY better than Day 1.

Note: If this is the first blog in this series that you are reading, you should read my introduction on my Day 1 post so you know what I’m raving on about!

I smashed out bare bones for lyrics for 3 songs in the 15 minute slot I give myself during the week, achieved all my morning tasks (eagerly snapping up my coffee stop reward on the way to work), and was UBER productive when I got there.

I felt light all day, and although I would usually practically chain-drink coffee at my desk, come lunchtime, I was very aware that I hadn’t made myself one yet (not that it lasted all day, but still a noticeable and unexpected difference!). I don’t know whether it was my elevated mood due to my songwriting block lifting, or Danelle’s words ringing in my ears, but either way I’ll take it! 88 days to go!

I hope your smashing your goals today! Why not try the 90 day commitment challenge yourself?

Day 1: 90 Days Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

A bit of background heading into this series…

I first came across Danelle after listening to her speak at this year’s 10X Growth Con (on the live feed, I wasn’t quite sold enough to attend a conference on the other side of the world at the time!). Her words hit me hard.

Yesterday I signed up for her online training modules on motivation and implementation, in which she asks for absolute consistency and dedication for 90 days, so here we go! I will be documenting my progress as I go (after this blog intended to be a sort of diary of my journey, sharing my thoughts, useful tips and absolute failures as I go).

I consider myself a motivated person, however I do have a few issues with consistency. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and I let it get to me, or I don’t have the right tools to do what I need to do and I give up. It has been my greatest weakness, but one I am determined to work on!

Day 1

Not the best start…

I aim to get all my tasks done during the day, so that the hour or so I have before an early night, is completely available to spend time with my partner. The night before, I had let myself get too comfortable sitting by the heater watching a series on Netflix with him, and I went to bed late… and yesterday I struggled to get out of bed… not good.

I ended up getting up too late to do my usual morning routine, and had to come straight to work, while being disappointed in myself for missing out on all the things I usually get done before I get there, and had to play catch up during lunch, and before bed.

Rewards and consequences

I also had to skip my morning espresso stop on the way to work, which I have now decided will be my daily reward for getting my morning to-do list done (most of my to-do list is done in the morning while I am usually most motivated).  This is another thing I have picked up from the training modules, have rewards and consequences for yourself. My morning coffee stop is a treat that I will not have if I don’t start my day properly.

For working hard at my additional jobs in order to pay for the whole trip, I have also tacked on a few extra days in Las Vegas next year, when I plan on attending the next 10X Growth Con! In a way, this is assuming that I will have done the work to get there, but I figure if I haven’t done the work, I won’t have the money to enjoy myself properly, and I will end up working from my hotel room instead, while people outside get to soak up the sun!

So here’s to a (more) consistent 90 days, and more consistent results for all the things I am working towards!

I hope you’re smashing your goals today!

Be Your Own Cheerleader

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

I’ve always supported the dreams and ideas of other’s, with the full energy and enthusiasm of a cheerleading squad during the last game of the season…. except when it came to my own goals…

When it came to my own life, I wavered, wrung my hands, and questioned every detail until I decided it was better to let the idea die.

It makes no sense,  I will no longer tolerate it from myself, and I urge you to do the same! Grab this short life by the short and curly’s and let’s take charge!

You are the cheer squad, the team, the coach, and the manager all rolled in one, and you only get one shot. This is the last and only game of the season, and you deserve the win!

Have a fantastic day guys and gals! Crush it!

Do You. Always.

I’ve always loved expressing my more… alternative side, and people have always commented on how loud I can be, especially when I laugh, but on graduation from university I felt like I had to fit in more to the corporate image. I went back to a natural hair colour, and started trying to become the best damn graduate employee I could be.

I had always worked hard in my jobs, but now I worked like my life depended on it. I worked longer hours, and wherever I could. I had already been working for the company I wanted to work for in a side project office, had started to help out in a technical role while I still had a valid contract, but as soon as that was up, I was dropped.

And although I think this had more to do with the company, than my appearance, I was still disappointed in myself. I have decided since then that I will never give up expressing myself as I please. I will laugh as loud as I want, and my hair will be whatever colour I choose. I still tone it down a little, and make a little more effort than skinny jeans and my latest fave metal shirt and in fact I think I am still fairly corporate (with a metal twist!) If a recruiter wants to see my hair colour and not my glowing references, then I will find another way to change the world for the better. And I will, because that’s how I roll when I have made a decision.

I am metal. Hear me roar.

I hope you guys are crushing it today! Do you.

Controlling Your Focus: Bookmarks Bar

Every morning when I set up an online yoga class, I have to do a google search for the ONE website that I use.

Every morning I think “I should set up a bookmark for that so I don’t have to search for it”, followed by “ohhh that’s not going to fit with the other bookmarks I have and hardly ever use, I’ll clear it out and add it later”.

I never did, until this morning.

It took all of 5 minutes and it will save me plenty more than that not having to search for my chosen yoga website every morning, and being distracted with what bookmarks I did have.

As I was going through them I realised that I had been prioritising other websites that I hardly ever use (e.g. Trade Me), over a site that I used daily, benefited my mental and physical wellbeing, and was directly related to my goals.

I now have my bookmarks bar arranged by order of priority and use, with anything that trails off the end (requiring that extra click on the >> button, being of VERY low importance, and hidden where they can’t distract me from what I SHOULD be using my laptop for if I’m online. Health and wellbeing, writing, researching, and motivating.

Control your environment and what takes your focus!

Have a fantastic day guys, I hope you crush it!

Book Review: Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World

Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers who changed the world was written and BEAUTIFULLY illustrated by Rachel Ignotofsky, for the children of the world (and in particular little girls).

I’ll get right to the point – if you are a parent, you should buy this book for your child…

Not only does it provide a fantastic list of female scientists, mathematicians, engineers, etc. for little girls to look up to, but it teaches all children to pursue their dreams with grit and perseverance!

As a science graduate myself, I recognized some of the women, but now know MANY more. I absolutely loved it this book and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Rating = 10/10

The Other Side of Reality TV

It seems there’s always a reality star in the media these days, and very seldom is it to celebrate their successes and achievements. More often than not, it is to parade their failures for the discontented masses to feast on.

I’ve always been somewhat of an observer, often opting a restaurant table or park bench where I can sit and watch people go by. Judging by the absolute explosion in the popularity of youtubers these days who are basically filming and uploading their own reality show online, I am not the only one.

I really started to get into some of these shows when I started to want to find myself, and began “window shopping” for who I wanted to be (see my recent post “Window Shopping for the Soul?” to see what I’m talking about).

I am no fool, a large portion of the content of these shows is highly manipulated and carefully edited to tell the story that will get the most views. The selection of reality stars in each group is no different, with some being cast purely to stir the pot. This doesn’t dismiss the fact that all are very successful in their own right, and everyone has their own struggle, no matter what walk of life they come from.

However, there is usually at least one stand-out star in the bunch whose genuine and admirable (I think) qualities shine through to me, and I have watched on, being motivated and inspired by the way they handled themselves, their careers, and personal lives, and all while being followed around by the world.

I have listed a few of these below, but please note, I have only listed shows and facts that I could think of off the top of my head. This is not meant to be an extensive bio!

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Bethenny Frankel: Mother, Author, Entrepreneur, chef and star on the Real Housewives of New York, and The Apprentice
  • Kandi Buruss-Tucker: Wife, mother, singer, songwriter, record producer, mega-entrepreneur/queen of her empire and star of the Real Housewives of Atlanta
  • RuPaul Andre Charles: Actor, Drag Queen, singer, songwriter, and producer and host of Ru Paul’s drag race (along with soo many of the brave, creative and motivated contestants on the show, that there’s no sense in listing them all)
  • Erika Gerardi: Wife,  mother, singer, actress and star of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Seeing a pattern here are we? Strong, independent men and women, who aren’t afraid to work hard, stand up for what they believe in, and be themselves no matter what? These are some qualities I can get behind.

Do I know if they’re genuine or not? Obviously not, I’ve never met these people before in my life. But have you ever been inspired by a character in a movie? a cartoon? a fairytale? I don’t think it matters where your inspiration comes from, it’s what you do with it.

I hope you’re having a fantastic day! Make the most of every second!
