Letting go to get success

I’m beginning to realise that the key to realise that the key to getting where I want to go may lie in letting go.

Letting go of the little things that aren’t directly connected to my dreams, and accepting that the rest of my life may not look or feel at all perfect. I have been soo caught up in messages from successful people about creating a culture and standard for yourself in all aspects of your life. But lately it occurred to me that if I just concentrated my efforts to detail while working on my dreams in order to succeed, that success while make room in my life to worry about the rest later. Because worrying about whether I get my washing done on schedule every Saturday on schedule each week sure wasn’t helping me focus on the important things.

More importantly, it opened up much larger and much more productive chunks of time where I could focus solely on working on my dreams, and GET SHIT done, rather than stopping and starting on lots of little things all day. In my eyes a whole Saturday focused on design or sewing up an idea is much more productive than housework, which could be slotted in elsewhere throughout the week.

I guess it’s about pioritising first while I’m still in a startup phase, and trying to do everything myself!

Do what works for you, listen to the advice of other’s but evaluate whether it’s appropriate for you and accept or reject at will. It’s your life, only you know what’s going to work best for you.

What’s on your bucket list?

I feel like this is a really powerful question to ask yourself.

What task would you have to achieve, hill you would have to climb, etc. Before you could be completely satisfied and ready to kick that bucket for good?

A friend asked this recently, and it got me thinking… As a quick answer, I rattled off:

1. Showing at the World of Wearable Arts Festival

2. Hold my own dream fashion show

3. Visit every country

4. Cuddle a sloth

5. Learn from some of the top yogi’s in India

6. Meditate with monks

7. Start a foundation which empowers the unempowered

I’m 100% sure there are other things to add to this list, and that I’d never actually be satisfied anyway hahaha, but it’s a good thought exercise.

What is on your bucket list?

The Artist’s Dilemma: Bills vs Passion

As I follow my heart to what is undoubtedly a more and more creative calling, a realm of possibility seems to grow exponentially with each step.

The ideas and opportunities really are endless. For the first time in my life I feel like I am only limited by my own imagination and drive (although some of this is possibly also due to my efforts to learn from as much as possible from as many successful people as possible, including their mindset).

Regardless of the why, it is both overwhelming and INCREDIBLY EXCITING! The anticipation is killing me! I am like a pot boiling on high on the stove (almost) unchecked.

I say almost because a girl’s still gotta pay her bills… And unless said girl is particularly good at her chosen practice, it is unlikely she will be able to pay her bills with any profits from it, and need to take time away from their passion to make some moolah. Being the ‘late bloomer’ that I am, I find myself in the unlikely category…. The frustration is soo real but soo common! I get it, there are soo many of us in this boat, creative and otherwise.

Gary Vee says the key to success is patience and hard work. Let’s hope so! Cause I’m all in!

Can you relate? How do you deal with it?

WIP Wednesday

Tomorrow will be my first day off in 3.5 weeks, and I’m looking forward to spending much more time on these wee gems! Here’s where I’m at, at the moment:

Still working on Lamb of God’s “Pathetic”. Still playing it at half the regular speed, and probably will be for some time, but I’m pretty happy with it.

I’ve started sketching out my ideas, although I’ve never done this before, and I think it will take a bit of practice to get them looking on paper as they do in my head!

I did however manage to whip together this wee gem. It was for a 70’s themed party, although I love it so much that it might become a regular wear!

Yoga & Meditation

No major milestones achieved with my yoga lately, probably owing to the fact that I’ve been working quite late at night which impacts on the next morning. With the holidays starting tomorrow I’m looking forward to being able to practice every day in the sun! Luxury.

I’m still workin on “The Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean M. Auel, but I’m just about done, and have been lent the rest of the series now, so I’ll keep you posted.

The story is based on the days of the caveman, and has undertones of struggles that many of us can relate to in modern times (loneliness, struggles with communication, expectations of society, feeling different, etc.). It also throws a lot of the modern assumptions about what life would have been like for these people, how they would have felt about their social structures, and how they came to do things in certain ways. So if you’re interested in these kinds of things it might be right up your alley!

I’m currently re-listening to “Be Obssessed or Be Average” by Grant Cardone. I don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to this now! But I find it helps centre my focus and keep on my track if I re-listen to it every now and then. It was after all, the book that helped to re-ignite my fire…

I’m curious to know what everyone else is working on? Any books I should be adding to my reading list?

Have a fantastic, productive, crazy day!

Day 83: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

I worked all day yesterday, not getting home until 9 pm, so the Sunday grind is alive and well! A bit disappointing that I didn’t get much creative time in this weekend, but I’ll just have to use that disappointment to fuel my fire to get myself into a better financial position and not have to work so much! (or get better at my creative side so that that can be my work?

Dreams are free, and there’s a lot more hustle to do to make that even a possibility!) I have a LOT so much to learn and so much time to make up there, so I’ll just have to keep pushing for a while longer.

Have a beautiful and productive day today!

Day 77: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

I’ve been pushing my body a little harder in yoga and yesterday it felt like it all caught up with me. My body ached all over, but it will be worth it! There’s something very satisfying about the post-workout ache, don’t you think?

I also started creating a new dress to flex my creative muscles, and started dreaming up a million other ideas as I wandered around a sewing supplies store… a danger zone for my saving plans when there’s a sale on…

I hope you’re having a satisfying and successful day today!

Day 76: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

Sunday was another busy day of getting last minute bits done to prep for the next week, work, music and dress design and customizing.

I also realised that my “weekend gig” is slowing down for the year, which isn’t ideal as I’m trying to save up to attend a conference on the other side of the world next year! a well as a few other projects I have in mind, so I had to start looking at other ideas for extra income.

I had also been looking forward to a talk by James Aspey in the evening, but when the time came, I really wanted to keep going on guitar practice and getting creative with my dresses, so I think it’s safe to say my creative fever is growing!

Queue John Travolta…

Have an epic and successful day!
