Day 5: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

I can hardly believe I’m only 5 days in on this challenge! I feel like I have learned, and gained, soo much from it already!

Yesterday morning I found myself in the middle of my second EVER yoga high at the end of my practice. I felt like I could have sat and meditated the rest of the day if I had the time, but settled for an extra couple of minutes to just breathe.

Was it the result of increased confidence from more committed and consistent practice? coincidence? or just the result of a really good Crown Chakra flow? Who knows… but time will tell!

Note: If this is the first blog in this series that you are reading, you should read my introduction on my Day 1 post so you know what I’m raving on about!

I hope you’re smashing your goals today!

Day 4: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

Yesterday was a biggun, with a busy day of work, followed by a busy night of work, and sleep. Delicious sleep.

It was one of the 10 things I was most grateful for when I sat down and wrote out my list before bed last night. The fact that after working hard all day, I get to come home to a warm, dry house and my little family (my partner and our cat), and sleep away the stresses of the day in a warm and comfortable bed surrounded by love.

I’m getting the hang of this gratitude journal thing.

I hope you’re smashing your goals today! If not, there’s no time like the present!

Be Your Own Cheerleader

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

I’ve always supported the dreams and ideas of other’s, with the full energy and enthusiasm of a cheerleading squad during the last game of the season…. except when it came to my own goals…

When it came to my own life, I wavered, wrung my hands, and questioned every detail until I decided it was better to let the idea die.

It makes no sense,  I will no longer tolerate it from myself, and I urge you to do the same! Grab this short life by the short and curly’s and let’s take charge!

You are the cheer squad, the team, the coach, and the manager all rolled in one, and you only get one shot. This is the last and only game of the season, and you deserve the win!

Have a fantastic day guys and gals! Crush it!

Do You. Always.

I’ve always loved expressing my more… alternative side, and people have always commented on how loud I can be, especially when I laugh, but on graduation from university I felt like I had to fit in more to the corporate image. I went back to a natural hair colour, and started trying to become the best damn graduate employee I could be.

I had always worked hard in my jobs, but now I worked like my life depended on it. I worked longer hours, and wherever I could. I had already been working for the company I wanted to work for in a side project office, had started to help out in a technical role while I still had a valid contract, but as soon as that was up, I was dropped.

And although I think this had more to do with the company, than my appearance, I was still disappointed in myself. I have decided since then that I will never give up expressing myself as I please. I will laugh as loud as I want, and my hair will be whatever colour I choose. I still tone it down a little, and make a little more effort than skinny jeans and my latest fave metal shirt and in fact I think I am still fairly corporate (with a metal twist!) If a recruiter wants to see my hair colour and not my glowing references, then I will find another way to change the world for the better. And I will, because that’s how I roll when I have made a decision.

I am metal. Hear me roar.

I hope you guys are crushing it today! Do you.

Book Review: Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World

Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers who changed the world was written and BEAUTIFULLY illustrated by Rachel Ignotofsky, for the children of the world (and in particular little girls).

I’ll get right to the point – if you are a parent, you should buy this book for your child…

Not only does it provide a fantastic list of female scientists, mathematicians, engineers, etc. for little girls to look up to, but it teaches all children to pursue their dreams with grit and perseverance!

As a science graduate myself, I recognized some of the women, but now know MANY more. I absolutely loved it this book and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Rating = 10/10

The Other Side of Reality TV

It seems there’s always a reality star in the media these days, and very seldom is it to celebrate their successes and achievements. More often than not, it is to parade their failures for the discontented masses to feast on.

I’ve always been somewhat of an observer, often opting a restaurant table or park bench where I can sit and watch people go by. Judging by the absolute explosion in the popularity of youtubers these days who are basically filming and uploading their own reality show online, I am not the only one.

I really started to get into some of these shows when I started to want to find myself, and began “window shopping” for who I wanted to be (see my recent post “Window Shopping for the Soul?” to see what I’m talking about).

I am no fool, a large portion of the content of these shows is highly manipulated and carefully edited to tell the story that will get the most views. The selection of reality stars in each group is no different, with some being cast purely to stir the pot. This doesn’t dismiss the fact that all are very successful in their own right, and everyone has their own struggle, no matter what walk of life they come from.

However, there is usually at least one stand-out star in the bunch whose genuine and admirable (I think) qualities shine through to me, and I have watched on, being motivated and inspired by the way they handled themselves, their careers, and personal lives, and all while being followed around by the world.

I have listed a few of these below, but please note, I have only listed shows and facts that I could think of off the top of my head. This is not meant to be an extensive bio!

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Bethenny Frankel: Mother, Author, Entrepreneur, chef and star on the Real Housewives of New York, and The Apprentice
  • Kandi Buruss-Tucker: Wife, mother, singer, songwriter, record producer, mega-entrepreneur/queen of her empire and star of the Real Housewives of Atlanta
  • RuPaul Andre Charles: Actor, Drag Queen, singer, songwriter, and producer and host of Ru Paul’s drag race (along with soo many of the brave, creative and motivated contestants on the show, that there’s no sense in listing them all)
  • Erika Gerardi: Wife,  mother, singer, actress and star of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Seeing a pattern here are we? Strong, independent men and women, who aren’t afraid to work hard, stand up for what they believe in, and be themselves no matter what? These are some qualities I can get behind.

Do I know if they’re genuine or not? Obviously not, I’ve never met these people before in my life. But have you ever been inspired by a character in a movie? a cartoon? a fairytale? I don’t think it matters where your inspiration comes from, it’s what you do with it.

I hope you’re having a fantastic day! Make the most of every second!
